Interview with Jaszy Shavers

Q: How would you describe yourself in one word?

Authentic

Q: Why do you feel this is the ideal profession for you?

I've been creating, performing and indulging deeply in music since my early childhood. I wake up and go to sleep with melodies on my heart. I know it's my purpose.

Q: Your upcoming project?

I released "Who's Gunna" March 9th as an original single, fully written, produced and engineered by myself. It discusses two layers of the human experience - 1. the ending of love, 2. the fight between ego and self-worth. It is more modern than my others but still reminiscent of my classic old school sound.

Q: What's the response you expect from your fans about your new release?

I think it'll become a Summer jam where listeners can relate from any point of the spectrum. I want people to feel it, dance to it, blast it - whatever feels good.

Q: Your favorite song?

Difficult to narrow down with all the music I listen to and am influenced by. I would say it's a close call between, the Roots ft. Common, "Act Too (Love of My Life)" and D'Angelo's, "Brown Sugar".

Q: Where do you see yourself in three years from now, or where would you like to be?

More refined and established with my music career. Definitely two studio locations (one on the East coast and West coast), at least one grammy nomination and overseas touring.

Q: Can you please tell us about the most successful project you have worked on.

My debut EP, "Red Light" is doing really well and I honestly have several projects going on at once but as for the most popular release to date I would say Polyester the Saint's recent drop, "In Us We Trust". His sound meshes perfectly with mine and our workflow together is a breeze. It's really dope working with artists I truly admire and many see as legendary.

Q: What is your dream project?

I'm technically working on one of them as we speak! With that still under wraps I will say one of my other dream projects would be working with Robert Glasper, Terrace Martin, HER, Thundercat and, Solange on an original album. Anywhere between 9 - 11 tracks, Soul and Funk focused. Full of dreamy sounds and abstract storytelling. We'd be a mean team.

Q: What are some things that you love?

Plant-based food, fashion, muscle cars and Jazz
