Today we are sharing an interesting interview with Tor James Faulkner, who’s always loving creating and telling stories through song.
Q. How would you describe yourself in one word?
Cheeky!
Q. Why do you feel this is the ideal profession for you?
I enjoy creating and telling stories through song. It’s probably the viking in me but nothing beats gathering round together and singing one’s lungs out.
Being able to make people feel something, whether it’s joy, laughter or reminding them of their first crush is quite special.
Music is special and I don’t take for granted that I’m very privellaged to be able to do this.
Q. Your latest project?
My latest project is “Reflection 2: the Other Side of the Mirror”. This is the sequel to my album “The Reflection” that originally came out a few years ago. Interestingly they both peaked (so far) at #4 in their respective UK charts. 4 is a very special number. In angel numbers is represents stability and strength. Similar in the tarot actually.
A lot of “The Reflection” was about my experiences with anorexia and the horrendous break-down of a serious relationship. The plan was always to follow it up, there was always supposed to be a part 2 because there’s always more to the story.
With R2, I wanted to be more raw, more personal, dig even deeper.
So, while there’s the fun songs like “I Said I’d Never Date a Leo (But Here We Are)” and “True to Us” – there is also deeply personal, biographical songs like “One by One, Two by Two” and “I Decide (You Win)”.
Q. What's the response you expect from your fans about it?
I wanted to create an album that people could enjoy, they have the entertainment value of a pop album but that also starts conversations about serious or more sensitive topics.
I again, touch on experiences wih eating disorders on this album, also domestic abuse and what it’s like living with autism.
So, I want fans to enjoy and dance but also to think a little bit, ask questions.
Q. Speciality of your music?
Without sounding like an egomaniac – I honestly think it’s that I’m not afraid to try stuff.
I will happily perform novelty songs like “No Way, No Way” and “Gunstorm” but equally will write and sing about very serious subject matter. If I wanna sing in Japanese, I will!
I feel like a lot of performers will choose one road or the other, serious or silly – or they’ll feel like they have to be confined to a specific genre.
I actually feel like it’s better to be really open about what music you might do.
I can only speak for myself but I learn more that way too. Music is always evolving and it’s wonderful to soak all that up and be inspired by it.
Q. Where do you see yourself in three years from now, or where would you like to be?
Performing concerts on colonies on Mars!
Maybe 3 years is a little too soon for that but why not?
I’d like to be in a place where I am performing and releasing regularly, if that’s on Mars, then great! If it’s still in England so be it!
Q. Can you please tell us about the most successful project you have worked on.
It depends how you messure success.
If i’m looking at things from a purely personal perspective, it would be how well recieved my version of “No Way, No Way” has been.
You don’t get moments like that in your career every day.
I’ve been the biggest fan of girl group Vanilla since i was like 3 years old and I sing “No Way, No Way” to myself every single day. Old managers and stuff warned me against performing or releasing it.
But I think the way it’s been put together, the slightly updated lyrics, the more synth-poppy dance vibe – it kinda works,
Perhaps it’s more of a personal victory… but yeah, I’d say “No Way, No Way”.
Q. What is your dream project?
I wanna rap on a Doja Cat song. Or sing on a Pitbull song. Or better yet a big collab of me, Jennifer Lopez, Doja Cat, Pilbull and the Cheeky Girls!
Lets make that happen!
Q. What are some things that you love?
Gaming, coffee, my husband, girl groups & anything vanilla scented. Mostly gaming and my husband though.
Q. How's your fans get updates about you or your music? Your website or social media links?
